Freelance assignment: Senior Communication Specialist – Research & Corporate Communications
The assignment
Hotelschool The Hague is looking for an experienced freelance communication specialist for a focused temporary assignment within our Marketing & Communication department. The assignment will run from 24 August – 31 December 2026.
The assignment centres on strengthening the external visibility of our Research Centre.
The specialist will translate research insights into compelling stories for industry partners, media, and wider stakeholders, including the communication of student research and the development of impact cases for our website.
The specialist works independently and is responsible for delivering agreed outputs within the set timeframe.
Deliverables
· Deliver and execute a reviewed and refined communication plan for the Research Centre
· Produce accessible external communications content based on selected professor-led and student research projects, tailored to industry partners, media, and relevant stakeholder groups.
· Deliver media-ready materials related to Research Centre activities, such as press releases, pitches, background notes, or Q&A input, and identify suitable media opportunities for agreed research topics.
· Develop research impact cases for publication on the Hotelschool The Hague website, clearly demonstrating the practical relevance and real-world value of research outputs.
· Deliver high-quality written content in agreed formats, including articles, research summaries, interviews, press releases, web copy, and LinkedIn content, in line with Hotelschool The Hague’s brand voice and editorial standards.
· Manage agreed content items from briefing to final version, including stakeholder input, drafting, editing, revisions, and preparation for publication.
· Contribute to the external positioning of Hotelschool The Hague as a thought leader in hospitality research through agreed outreach activities, content placement, and visibility opportunities.
· A concise hand-over document to support continuity after completion of the assignment.
Profile
· Minimum 5–8 years of experience in external communications, PR, or media relations
· Demonstrated experience translating complex content — research, policy, data — into compelling storytelling
· Excellent writing and editing skills in English; Dutch is a strong plus
· Proven experience working independently as a freelancer or consultant
· Affinity with education, research, or the hospitality industry is an advantage
· Comfortable working across stakeholder levels — from researchers to leadership
Practical:
Assignment duration: 24 August – 31 December 2026
Estimated effort: approximately 3 days per week
Location: hybrid; presence at The Hague and/or Amsterdam campus
The specialist works on the basis of a freelance assignment agreement (no employment contract). Both parties are expected to act in accordance with the principles applicable to Law DBA and to ensure that the practical execution of the assignment reflects the freelance nature of the cooperation.
