Chair Selection Committee (160 hrs/block)
Do you want to have impact on the very start of the HTH Student Journey?
Are you passionate about shaping the future HTH student community?
Do you enjoy actively representing HTH to both internal and external parties?
Would you enjoy steering the Selection Team towards achieving its goals?
If yes, then Selection Committee is looking for you!
As a school, we’re in the fortunate position to be able to select our students, based on their affinity for the Hospitality Industry and their affinity for our programme(s). HTH Selection Committee ensures a consistent and smooth Selection process, which each selection season (October to June) takes 1,250+ motivated candidates through a hospitable Candidate Journey, to ensure that we have the right students in our classrooms, both from the HTH perspective and from the individual student’s perspective. Approximately 1 in 3 candidates who apply to us are selected and join us as students.
With appropriate testing and interviewing, over 8 ‘buzzing’ on-campus Selection Days, 4 exciting International Selection Days and 4 smooth Online Selection Weeks, Selection Committee ensures that we fill all cohorts (August, February and IFT) at an appropriate pace with high calibre and appropriately motivated students.
What happens during Selection has an important impact on the HTH Journey for both Students and Lecturers/Instructors, from classroom dynamics to Year 1 success rates and all the way through to our Bachelor Return Rate, which in turn impacts our Rankings.
The role of Chair Selection Committee
As Selection Committee Chair (for a period of 2 years, with an option to renew for a further 2 years), you’re assigned for 2 days per week (160 hours per block) to steer the Selection Team, support individual Selection Days and guide the overall Selection process. As a Committee, you meet to tackle strategic questions, such as Diversity, problem solve any issues, discuss (data) insights and agree improvement initiatives and, as an individual, you take responsibility for pushing individual initiatives forward. As Chair, you liaise with the Management Team/BoD to update on progress, get input/ decisions on topics, as they arise, and feed their views back to the Committee. You also steer and support the Selection Student Assistants/LYCar student.
The Selection Committee brings together staff from different areas of HTH, so that together the Committee covers the necessary skillset and perspectives. The Committee operates in close alignment and cooperation with many different areas within HTH, but most notably Recruitment, Admissions and Events/F&B. The Committee is ably supported by 2 highly motivated Selection Student Assistants and, as and when appropriate, by a LYCar student on Internship.
